Why PDCPD RIM Molding

Low-pressure reaction injection molding — the sweet spot between performance and economics

Low-Pressure RIM

<1 MPa cavity pressure. Aluminum or steel molds. Wall thickness 2–12 mm. Parts up to 2 m+ in a single shot. Cure time 30s–3min.

🛡️Impact & RF Transparent

Unnotched impact 80 kJ/m² — absorbs crash energy instead of splintering. Fully transparent to GPS, 5G & RC telemetry signals.

🪶Lightweight

Density 1.03 g/cm³ — ~40% weight reduction vs steel, competitive with aluminum, yet far more impact-tolerant.

💰Low-Volume Economics

Tooling cost 60–80% lower than injection molding. Viable from 50 pcs to 5,000 pcs. No minimum run penalty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reliable minimum wall thickness is 2 mm. For small parts with support ribs, we can go down to 1.5 mm. Thick sections up to 12 mm are also achievable without sink marks due to the RIM process characteristics.

For non-primary-load skins and covers, PDCPD is cheaper to tool, isotropic in impact, and fully RF-transparent. Carbon fiber remains better for primary spars and ultra-stiff structures. Many clients use PDCPD for the fuselage skin and carbon for internal frames.

Approximately 30 days including aluminum mold fabrication and first article. Repeat batches after mold approval typically ship in 18–25 days.

Yes. We sign a standard NDA before any STEP/CAD file exchange. All client designs are kept confidential and molds are marked as client-owned property.

Yes. PDCPD accepts polyurethane, epoxy, and UV-curable topcoats directly without a gel coat. We offer primer + topcoat in any RAL or Pantone color as part of our standard service.

Minimum order is 50 pcs for aluminum mold projects. For steel molds (long-run tooling), MOQ starts at 500 pcs. We also offer CNC prototypes prior to mold commitment for design validation.
